Celia Kerslake, Secretary of the West Oxfordshire Green Party, writes:
Andy Wright, who led the group for several years, was formally elected to the chair at our first AGM in May 2018. Andy has since found himself obliged move away from Oxfordshire to be nearer his family, so the branch is now without a chairperson. At our last meeting, on 5 December, Mathew Parkinson, who lives in Woodstock, is a member of the town council there and is also our local elections coordinator, volunteered himself as a candidate for this office, at least in the short term. (Chairs are in any case elected on an annual basis.)
All Green Party members who live in West Oxfordshire are entitled to take part in this election. Would you please therefore let me know by Friday, 4 January of any alternative nominations? Please do not be hesitant about putting yourself forward if you feel this is a job for you. Essentially we are looking for someone who will regularly chair our monthly meetings, provide a strong sense of direction in line with Green Party philosophy, work towards the election of a Green councillor in West Oxfordshire, encourage maximum participation of members and supporters and a free exchange of views, and mediate in situations of disagreement.
The next meeting of WOGP will take place on Wednesday, 9 January, 7.30 – 9.30 pm in the Anne Downer Room, the Corner House, Charlbury. If no alternative nominations have been received by the deadline, Mathew’s election as chairperson will be confirmed at that meeting.
We also need people to stand as candidates in the May 2019 council elections and for Witney if there is a snap general election. If interested, please complete the candidates wanted form (https://www.greenoxfordshire.com/candidates_wanted…).
